Velier CEO Luca Gargano discovered the treasure trove of Caroni barrels in Trinidad in 2004, a year after it shuttered for good, and a year before it was demolished – sealing the cult distillery’s fate. Since 2005, Velier has been releasing a handful of Caroni bottlings onto the market each year. This was one of the first to be released, in 2005. It’s a blend of heavy and light rums from eight casks, distilled in 1985. The casks were blended and transferred to tank in 2000, stopping its maturation, before it was bottled in 2005.
