Ambonnay grand cru vineyards. 50% Pinot Noir, 50% Chardonnay. 30% reserve wine. Vinified and aged in oak casks. Bottled April 2014. Disgorged July 2018. There is comforting spice and lemon and floral aromatics in this dense, broad, rich wine that makes its bold presence known like a garden of heady creamy white and yellow roses. It's forsythia in April, choisya in May, spiraea in June. It's fat knobbly lemons. It's bay leaves. It's verbena. It's toast in the garden in the timid light of early spring. (TC)

The NV Brut Grand Cru Cuvee Prestige Princesse des Thunes shows an additional layer of volume and depth from the vinification in oak. Red berries, smoke and ash are some of the nuances that emerge from this broad shouldered, expansive wine. A warm, creamy finish rounds things out in style. Disgorged February, 2008. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2014. Dethune makes a fabulous range of Champagnes from vineyards in Ambonnay. Importer: Bertin Henri Selections, Doral, FL; tel. (305) 392-6995
