Drink 2025-2040, FINE+RARE, Jun 2025

Arro 2004 marks a pivotal moment in Henri Giraud’s history, the first experimental trial that would later inspire the renowned Cuvée Argonne Rosé. Produced in a strictly limited run of 400 magnums, this one-off release is made from 100% Pinot Noir from Aÿ Grand Cru, including a discreet addition of a few percents of still red wine from the same terroir to give it its “Oeil de Perdrix” delicate hue. Vinified with a short maceration in the press and aged in Argonne oak, it is a rare, exploratory cuvée never repeated. In the glass, Arro 2004 opens with expressive aromas of pear, dried orange peel, red berries, and honeycomb, layered with notes of marmalade, buttered toast, mocha, and exotic spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied, vinous, and remarkably structured, with a elegant attack that unfolds into a deep, tightly coiled core. The texture is both muscular and elegant, shaped by fine phenolics and vibrant acidity. As Claude Giraud would say there is a real "Energy inside"! The finish is long, sapid, and patinated, leaving lingering impressions of plum, spice, and toasted bread. This is not a rosé in the traditional sense, but a profound expression of Aÿ Pinot Noir and a precursor to the modern Argonne Rosé style — a vinous, age-worthy Champagne rooted in experimentation and terroir.
