Another beauty is the 2009 Fortification, a spicy, complex, layered effort with a thrilling texture as well as a great bouquet of sweet tobacco, cigar wrapper, chocolate, sandalwood, iron, and mulled currants. This rich, utterly seamless Port-like effort has perfectly integrated sweetness, a powerful yet weightless mouthfeel, and a rock star of a finish.

Score 97/100 · Drink 2018-2058, Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate, Dec 2018

The 2009 Fortification is medium garnet in color with a hint of tawny at the rim, delivering an earthier/meatier expression of this wine with notes of chargrill, truffles, scorched earth and underbrush over a core of plum preserves, spice cake, figs and baked black cherries plus a touch of dried lavender. Thick, rich and spicy in the mouth, the palate is beautifully poised with tons of harmonious layers and a velvety texture, finishing very long with loads of savory nuances complementing the sweet spiciness.
