The 1971 Barolo Granbussia Riserva from Aldo Conterno has an intriguing bouquet with Asian spice, hung game, and charred wood, white fennel and broom. It is still fresh, but certainly well into its secondary aromas. The palate is well balanced with fragrant dark plum fruit marked by a soupçon of volatility, almost "fiery" towards the finish. This lovely Barolo is one to broach in the near future. Tasted at Christies' 1971 dinner.
