The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is actually 72% from Mt. Veeder and 28% from Howell Mountain, and is an interesting blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 11% Malbec. This wine has a thick-looking bluish/purple color and notes of charcoal, graphite, blueberry and black raspberry fruit with some cassis emerging. It is medium to full-bodied and exhibits impressive purity, texture and length. For a 2013, it is already drinking well, but it is capable of evolving for 15-20 years.

A host of sweet red cherry, plum, blueberry, rose petal and mocha notes flesh out as this super-inviting, luscious Cabernet shows off its compelling and totally alluring personality. Merlot and Malbec both play significant roles in the blend and also give the wine a striking core of mid-palate sweetness to balance the firm mountain tannins. The Napa Valley Cabernet is a blend of fruit from estate vineyards on Howell Mountain and Mt. Veeder.
Here in its second vintage, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) has developed beautifully, especially for an entry-level bottling. Leather, spice, tobacco, dried cherry and earthy tones show the first signs of tertiary complexity. The 2013 is ready to go. It should drink well for another handful of years, but it’s a pretty big wine, even today.
