Drink 2022-2028, FINE+RARE, May 2022

The little-known Guerchère Premier Cru is typically bottled under the generic climat of Morgeot. But this lieu-dit, with its distinct, compact clay soils, brings fantastic body and textural richness to its Chardonnay – and, in a cooler vintage like 2012, retains amazing freshness too. The wine is a real treat from beginning to end. A fabulous nose of attractive gunpowder flint gives way to luxurious and creamy ginger spice and orchard fruit notes. At 10 years old, the fruit is succulent and juicy, with impressive body and breadth, yet stays lithe and contained. Incredibly balanced and well-rounded, with streamlining acidity drawing together the rich, open fruit and ample texture that finishes long and complete, this lesser-known Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru will delight now but can also keep easily in the cellar for several more years.
