Drink 2025-2030, Neal Martin, Sep 2024

The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Porrets-Saint-Georges 1er Cru has a rather baked nose that is missing some freshness; perhaps a little Brettanomyces here? There are hints of saddle leather. This deteriorates in the glass. The palate is very sweet with plush black fruit on the entry, but it lacks finesse and feels leaden and hot on the pruney finish. The 2020 oxidizes in the glass. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Blackish crimson. Rather tired on the nose. Tart on the end. But Gouges en primeur samples being less than appetising but followed by very good finished wines is no novelty. (JR)

The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Porrets-Saint-Georges 1er Cru was certainly affected by hail and dryness, cropped at 16-17hl/ha. That resulted in a very concentrated nose that shows some pruney, sur-maturité notes, a little cloying. The palate very sweet and candied, maraschino cherries and blueberry, the 14.8° alcohol blurring the finish. I am not sure about this - it seems top-heavy.
