Drink 0-0, Neal Martin, Sep 2024

The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 1er Cru has a pretty, floral bouquet with dark cherries, crushed violet and light iris scents. Delicate and detailed. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet entry, fine acidity, cohesive and harmonious…and then there is a harsh vegetal element that sears through the finish and leaves a distasteful aftertaste. Some stressed vines and underripe fruit in the mix? I just cannot get my head around this. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 1er Cru has a bright nose with black plum, briary, crushed stone and orange rind scents. Suggestions of shucked oyster shell surface with time and impart a discrete estuarine dimension. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins, black cherry fruit, allspice, hints of peppermint and quite a lavish finish, slightly less "serious" than when I tasted it out of barrel last year Great potential.

The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 1er Cru has a brisk black cherry, raspberry and oyster shell-scented bouquet that is very well delineated. The palate is very well balanced with firm tannins, layers of pure mineral-driven red fruit, quite stern and "serious" on the finish with a sappy aftertaste that you don't want to end. Wonderful.

Mugnier's 2020 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées unfurls to reveal aromas of rich red berry fruit mingled with peonies, orange oil and warm spices. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and perfumed, its ample core of fruit is framed by supple, melting tannins and lively acids. Concluding with a long, saline finish, like its communal counterpart, this is an elegant, vibrant wine despite the extremes of the vintage.
