This Famille Gagey vineyard was bought in 2011 by Jadot. The vines are old – averaging 40 years in age – and producing a fine, delicate wine in 2021. Almost transparent ruby, this is fine-boned with a nose that combines herbal freshness and juicy raspberry and redcurrant fruit. With a subtle chalky framework and mouth-watering acidity, its vibrant profile is appealing with a mineral finish.

The 2021 Beaune Cras 1er Cru has a slightly more reduced style compared to the Theurons, perhaps without the same complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, though it does not have the amplitude of terroir-expression of the Theurons. It's rather straightlaced towards the finish. So-so.
Always one of the estate's finest domaine bottlings, the 2021 Beaune 1er Cru Aux Cras (Domaine Gagey) exhibits aromas of sweet raspberries, strawberries, peonies and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, seamless and melting palate animated by a bright spine of acidity.

Louis Jadot is arguably the most consistent négociant house in Burgundy. It has managed to straddle both the entry-level and fine wine market, while retaining respect in both.
