A very rainy year, but they no longer remember when the rain fell! Tasting the wine, my hunch is that the rain fell around harvest. Pale golden straw. Reminding me of old-school German Riesling with a waxy, oxidative nose, but at the same time still quite firm. With aeration there's waxy lemon fruit. Has something cool about it. Spicy lemon fruit without enormous depth, but it does have good length, even if it is not extremely persistent. Not over the hill by far. Lemony twist on the finish. (WS)

Emidio Pepe

Emidio Pepe is a star of the Abruzzo region and one of Italy’s most famous names. Worshipped by natural-wine lovers for its low-intervention approach, this estate makes category-defying, age-worthy examples of Montepulciano, Trebbiano and Cerasolo d’Abruzzo, as well as Pecorino Colli Aprutini.
