(there are 120 barrels of this cuvee, compared to just 18 for the Chassagne villages More fruit-driven aromas of ripe peach and minerals, with a whiff of porcini. Less fat than the Chassagne villages, with an impression of stronger lemony acidity, and firmer minerality, giving it a more taut texture. But there's no shortage of flesh here.

Here too the wood is very discreet though the nose is clearly more elegant with high-toned floral and pear aromas that lead to rich, sweet and less powerful but more precise flavors that are both minerally and pure on the linear and vibrant finish. Qualitatively there is little to choose between these two villages wines but they both reflect perfectly well the underlying typicity.

Sample #1, from the Meursault side (just stirred; Boudot had stopped stirring the lees of his other wines, except for the Batard, about three weeks prior to my visit): Ripe aromas of apricot, nectarine and acacia flower. Fat, spicy, broad and rich, with a slight alcoholic warmth. Sample #2 (from the Chassagne side): Slightly greener in color. Quite ripe on the nose, but with fresher lemon and lime notes. More brisk and minerally in the mouth, with a persistent lemon flavor. Trades off some volume for precision vis-a-vis the first sample. Sample #3, from old vines between Boudot's house and the premier cru Pucelles: Pale color. Complex, musky aromas of peach and apple. Dense, dry and rich, with good supporting acidity. This has clarity and grip. The blend should be good.
