The bouquet peels back to reveal many layers with bright fruit, white pepper, mint, orange peel and tangy licorice. The tannins are polished and fine with a touch of that distinctive limestone chalkiness that you sometimes taste in Cannubi. The 2016 Barolo Cannubi is beautifully perfumed and gracious. Sweet red berry, kirsch, mint, tobacco and dried flowers all lift from the glass. A wine of total finesse, the 2016 is just stunning in its beauty and arresting sensuality. Time in the glass brings out the wine's silkiness and captivating inner perfume. This is such a fabulous expression of Cannubi. What a wine!
Barolo. Refined, perfumed, red fruit with minerally hints and oak. Still tight but with great, underlying richness of red fruit with a nervy vein of acidity. Ripe but firm, grainy tannins. Very complete and focused and with gorgeous length. (WS)
