Score 94/100 · Drink 2026-2032, Eric Guido, Vinous, Feb 2026

The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino is in a gorgeous place today, showcasing the sheer potential of Le Ragnaie's holdings prior to the estate splitting its parcels into single-vineyard bottlings. A cascade of dark red fruits, dusty rose, leather and cedar box form an inviting bouquet. The 2006 displays a cool-toned quality despite the vintage's power, coming across as radiant and sleek. Nuances of plum and lavender linger through the resolved yet balanced and refined finale.

Very pale ruby, yet the nose is youthful and quite tight. Almost like a Volnay, but so closed and caught up. Elegant and fluid but might confuse Brunello aficionados expecting power. (WS)

Mid to pale red. Light and fresh on the nose. Fading a little. Nothing wrong with this but it’s now a bit dry. I’d much rather have the 2009. (JR)

Deep brick colour. Light bodied and pretty with delightful autumnal development though I can see why they decided to decant this. Robust tannins! Bouquet seems ahead of the palate. Will it ever be perfectly balanced? (JR)
