The 2021 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Porrets-Saint-Georges 1er Cru has a slightly reductive nose, yet it offers more mineralité and complexity compared to some of its peers. These aromatics will certainly need time, but it feels obdurate at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with finely spiced tannins. I appreciate the balance and symmetry here, especially towards the nuanced, precise and quite tensile finish. It is a question of how the aromatics will develop, but I will give it the benefit of the doubt. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Monopole of 3.6 ha (8.9 acres). Mid-cherry. Seems very classic Nuits-St-Georges; red fruits, concentrated redcurrants, red cherry floral notes, underscored by some meaty, ferrous oomph. Quite racy acidity and a big, slightly stern tannic bone structure. Serious and more tuned to reputation – for the longer haul, no doubt. (MH)
Mid crimson. Rich-fruited and floral but, unusually, just slightly savoury, too. A touch of vanilla and raspberry cream on the palate. Multifaceted, not subtle, but should be widely appealing in its fruit and oak combo. Chewy but not excessive tannins smoothed by the oak. (JH)
