The 1950 Rivesaltes, which came from cask barrel, had a more complex bouquet compared to the 1951 or 1952, with a light marine, seaweed influence that is very attractive. I admire the detail here, the focus. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity that counterbalances the lightly spiced honeyed fruit, segueing into a cohesive and harmonious finish offering brown spices, dried quince and a touch of barley sugar. This is a gorgeous Rivesaltes that is one of the best that I have tasted from Domaine La Sobilane. Tasted June 2017.

Cask sample. Mainly Grenache Noir. Lively, brownish, greenish. Light, treacly nose. Some pungency. Seaweed notes. Quite interesting. Light and lively. Dry finish. (JR)
