Lachaux's 2019 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Grands Suchots has turned out brilliantly in bottle, wafting from the glass with a deep bouquet of rose petals, red berries, warm spices and subtle savory bass notes. Full-bodied, perfumed and multidimensional, it's velvety and sensual, displaying immense concentration without weight, its layered core of fruit framed by lively acids and rich, powdery tannins, and concluding with a long, resonant finish.

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Grands Suchots 1er Cru needed time to settle in the glass, just to fully enmesh the contribution of the whole bunch. It gradually coheres to reveal exquisitely-defined red fruit, freshly peeled Clementines and just a touch of sous-bois. The palate is medium-bodied with a very sappy entry, quite Morey-like in style, much spicier than you would find within other Suchots, Grands or not. Fine weight, a very slight viscosity on the finish, this is a succintly controlled and poised Vosne-Romanée that will be difficult to resist in its youth.
