The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru shows a little stem addition on the fresh, detailed nose, which is earthier than those of its appellation peers and acquires graphite and tobacco scents with aeration. The palate is well-balanced, displaying good backbone and fine acidity, but tight and backward at the moment, and missing a little charm. I am sure that will evolve with continued bottle age, so cellar this for another 5 to 7 years. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes is quite youthfully reserved, unfurling with aeration to deliver notes of sweet cherries, dried flowers, peonies and sweet spices. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and concentrated, with a lavishly textural attack, tangy acids and a satiny chassis of tannin that clamps down on the finish. As is the rule with Barthod's wines, it will require time, but at maturity it will be superb.

(Barthod bottled her 2015s in May of this year): Bright, dark red. Alluring aromas of black cherry, menthol, licorice and crushed rock. Densely packed, ripe and penetrating, conveying strong medicinal reserve and a rather powerful spine for 2015. The wine's very strong material is obvious on the explosive, very long, palate-cleansing finish, which features substantial ripe tannins and lingering notes of dark fruits and licorice. Barthod offered that this wine "may not taste like a 2015 in a few years."
