This is a beautiful wine that respects the long-standing classic traditions of the Barolo appellation. The 2011 Barolo Riserva Bussia Vigna Mondoca is a reflective and elegant wine that moves in slow motion across the senses. It is in no hurry and nor should it be. The bouquet imparts a slightly riper and softer quality of fruit. As the wine evolves in the glass it reveals more nuances of subtle spice and smoke. All those qualities wrap delicately over the palate with lasting intensity.

Lots of soft tannins and ripe fruit with hints of caramel and coffee. Dense and fruity yet complex and delicious. Richer more decadent style. Drink now.

Monforte d’Alba. Mid ruby with bright orange tinges. Heady nose of ripe fruit with hints of fruit cake. Perhaps a tiny bit grubby/reductive. Ripe but embryonic. Tactile grainy tannins that play up a little but there is plenty of fruit and good acidity, too. Promising. (WS)
