(from 85-year-old vines planted on what Clavelier described as aromatic calcaire; harvested last in 2014): Dark medium red. Smoky, musky aromas of raspberry and underbrush lifted by flowers and minerals. Still a slight sour streak here but with more successfully integrated acidity than the Hauts de Beaux Monts; trades a bit of body and thickness for more energy and inner-mouth tension. But still shows a touch of viscosity that nicely supports its fine-grained tannins.

The 2014 Vosne Romanée la Combe Brûlée was more backward and taciturn than I expected, not quite as coalesced. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, the fruit just a little blocky at the moment that underpins what is a foursquare finish. Hopefully more flesh will develop during the remainder of it élevage.
