Score 88/100 · Drink 2018-2028, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Oct 2016

Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux tasting. The 2012 Château Haut-Beauséjour has a satisfactory, blackberry and tobacco-scented bouquet that has satisfying fruit intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin—sappy black fruit with a dash of spice towards what feels like quite a dense finish. Give this 2-3 years and you should have a respectable Saint Estèphe. Tasted January 2016.

Used to be owned by Pichon Lalande. Tasted blind. Very austere. Tight and very stony. Difficult to find the fruit. (JR)

The 2012 Haut-Beausejour is gorgeous. Blue and black stone fruits, crème de cassis, lavender, sage, mint, tobacco and spices flesh out in a dark, sensual wine built on texture and resonance. One of the clear overachievers in this vintage, the Haut-Beausejour impresses for its balance and class, especially at this level. This plump, juicy Saint Estèphe is a great choice for drinking over the next few years.
