Drink 0-0, Neal Martin, Nov 2022

The 2018 Volnay Clos des Chênes 1er Cru, which despite its name actually sees no wood, seems rather lackluster on the nose and misses the delineation of its peers. Dark black fruit, touches of fig and prune. There is a hollowness that does not go away - perhaps some TCA here? The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins on the entry. It feels a little monotone with some dryness and pepperiness on the finish. Not an engaging Volnay. There are no obvious faults apart from the possible TCA, so I will not score based on this example. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.
