Score 18/20 · Drink 2023-2033, Tamlyn Currin, jancisrobinson.com, Jul 2023

Full bottle 1,665 g. Grapes from parcels in Cumières, Trépail and Bouzy. 50% Chardonnay, 25% Meunier and 25% Pinot Noir. Bottled July 2012, disgorged September 2021. 0 g/l dosage. It smells momentarily of jasmine, then, more persistently, of the slightly-over browned crust of a loaf of sourdough, straight out the oven. Very Chardonnay-shaped on the palate. Cut from rocks. Angular and clinquant. Crunchy apple, grapefruit pith, blanched almonds and masses of minerality. A touch of bitter orange. Long and challenging and vertically dramatic and magnificent – there is something of the awe-inspiring majesty of a snow-capped Alpine mountain in this wine. Tightly contained, rocky, glittering power. (TC)

50% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir, 25% Pinot Meunier. Bottled July 2012. Disgorged September 2021. Zero dosage. Something reminiscent of the smell of ashes on the nose and lots of undertow. Pretty ‘natural’. The first wine in this collection that seemed to need just a little more dosage. Bone-dry finish. (JR)

A powerful, bold and autumnal style of champagne that’s on the edge of heaviness, but the vibrant, citrusy acidity flips it in a very interesting, savory direction. Long, slightly austere and toasty finish with a subtle, chalky note. A cuvee of 50% chardonnay, 25% pinot noir and 25% pinot meunier that was disgorged in September, 2021. Drink now.
