The 2001 Cinq Cepages (76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot. 8% Cabernet Franc, 4% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot) is a silky, fully mature, fruity, seductive, round wine offering up notes of earth, bay leaf, sweet currants and plums along with sweet tannins. It should offer enjoyment for another 5-6 years. Tel. (877) 478-5326

Even-numbered vintages in California often underwhelm initially, yet many come around with time, as does this wine. Bright black- and blueberry aromas and flavours are full and rich, and there is a symbiotic suppleness and firmness to the tannins and refreshing acidity. Pair it with beef for a lush yet fat-cutting experience.

Saturated ruby-red. Rather Rhone-like aromas of currant, chocolate and fruitcake. Sweet on entry, then turns a bit dry in the middle under a heavy load of oak. Flavors of dried fruits, tar and coffee grounds, along with a hint of band-aid. The finish features a lot of drying oak tannins.
