The 2017 Beaune Clos du Roi 1er Cru has a generous, delineated bouquet of dark cherries, mulberry and light wild heather scents, opening nicely in the glass. The palate is fresh and vibrant, delivering plenty of concentration. Very Volnay-like, with a pure, grippy finish, and quite modern in style; nevertheless, this has great potential. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

Light crimson. So pretty on the nose, subtle and scented with red fruit. Wonderful delicacy without loss of intensity. Refined texture, gentle but with great length. A subtle beauty. (JH)

The 2017 Beaune Clos du Roi 1er Cru has a tightly wound bouquet at first, gradually unfolding to reveal blackberry, raspberry preserve and light rose petal aromas. There is a touch of cold steel here. The palate is medium-bodied and supple, and shows plenty of rondeur on the entry. Juicy and almost nubile, this is a Clos du Roi that will be difficult to resist in its youth.
