Tasting notes
FINE+RARE, Nov 2024

Royal Tokaji’s smallest vineyard is Birsalmás, meaning quince orchard. They have two hectares on the volcanic-heavy soil, with 25-year-old vines facing south-west. The nose is strikingly different, with rich caramel, fresh Seville orange and earthiness too. The palate is weighty and full, laden with decadent stone fruit and more tropical tones, as well as a pleasing marmalade bitterness. There’s a smokiness edging the fruit, making for a more savoury profile, while the acidity doesn’t feel quite as refreshing as in the other cuvées. 187.3g/l residual sugar and 11.5% alcohol.
