Drink 2030-2050, FINE+RARE, Nov 2024

Lamarche’s Clos de Vougeot comes from two plots on opposite sides of the vineyard – one near the château, to the northwest, and one on the southeastern side – giving a complete representation of this Grand Cru. Again, the 2023 bears Nicole Lamarche’s signature, with a typically pale colour but expressive floral and red-fruit aromas, as well as her trademark freshness – yet this is balanced by a layer of ripeness and richness that is a step up from the Premiers Crus here. You can tell it’s cut from different cloth. There’s greater concentration here, yet the tannins are weightless, giving a beautifully plush yet light mouth-feel. The red fruit dominates the vibrant and long finish. This is an impressive showing and a candidate for our favourite Grand Cru in Nicole’s range this vintage.
