2023 Fleurie

2023 Fleurie, Rowse marks the debut vintage of Guillaume Boillot’s Beaujolais project, sourced from old gobelet-trained vines (average age 70 years) perched atop the cool, late-ripening slopes of Fleurie. The granite-rich soils lend a distinct minerality, and Boillot’s traditional approach (eschewing carbonic maceration in favor of classic vinification with 10% whole bunch) results in a marriage between structure and finesse. Initially tight and slightly reductive on the nose, it opens gradually in the glass to reveal layers of savoury depth, white pepper, purple flowers, tilled earth, and a touch of barnyard. Bright red and blue berry fruits, candied cherry, crunchy raspberries, and tart redcurrants that unfolds on the juicy, mouth-watering palate. The tannins are ultra-fine, offering subtle structure. Still tasting very youthful, this wine will reward patience as it continues to evolve and open-up over the coming years, revealing its full potential. This is a vibrant and impressive Fleurie, a very promising first vintage, and one we’re excited to follow in the years ahead. Only 25,000 bottles produced.
