Score 91+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2011

(from vines on the east side of St. Helena at an altitude of 1,000 feet): Good deep ruby-red. Crystallized dark berries, licorice, graphite and smoke on the musky, slightly candied nose. Sweet and chewy, with warm cassis and mineral flavors. This rather backward wine finishes with a firm spine of tongue-dusting tannins and sound acidity. Thomas Brown, who took over winemaking here with the 2008 vintage, is now vinifying some lots of petit verdot and cabernet franc separately, and picking these vineyards later and riper than previously.

Score 94/100 · Drink 2010-2025, Robert Parker, Dec 2010

Beautiful aromas of subtle smoke, blueberries and blackberries jump from the glass of this opaque ruby/purple-colored 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon. Graphite, spring flower, blueberry and blackberry notes continue on the palate. Full-bodied with plenty of well-integrated tannin, this big, rich wine should drink well for 15+ years. Winemaker Thomas Brown and viticulturist David Abreu have a say in what has appeared in this bottle from Jones Family Vineyard. P.S. This estate makes a second wine called Three Sisters. The 2008 is a good effort (I rated it 86 points). Tel. (707) 942-0467
