The light to medium-bodied, ruby-colored 1999 Pinot Noir Evenstad Reserve has demure black cherry and spice aromas. Dark fruits and fresh herbs can be discerned in this somewhat rustic and firm wine. It has appealing density of fruit and excellent balance. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2007. Tel. (503) 852-7777

Dark red with ruby highlights. Initially shy nose opened to reveal currant, plum, violet and spicy, nutty oak. Leanish and tightly wrapped, with rather dry, rigid black fruit and spicy oak flavors. Finishes a bit harsh. But better than the Grace Vineyard bottling, which showed a weedy element as well as some odd suggestions of uncured barrel.
