Score 90/100 · Drink 2023-2028, Neal Martin, Jul 2023

The 1962 Lynch-Bages is rarely seen these days, but two or three bottles have left positive impressions. The last, opened at The Arches, has a seductive and mellow bouquet, having lost some of its primal vigor. Yet it's equipped with disarming tobacco and cedar scents, with touches of an antique mahogany bureau. The palate is balanced, fresh and elegant but just beginning to run out of steam. Fine.

Score 89/100 · Drink 1989, Robert Parker, Jan 1998

One of the all-time popular wines of the chateau, this wine has been drinking beautifully since 1970, and continues to be delightful. It indicates just how long a top-class Bordeaux can remain at its apogee. However, the regular bottle size seems to be losing some of the exuberant, unabashed, gutsy fruitiness. Cedary and black currant aromas still prevail, and this wine still has a wonderful, silky voluptuousness that has made it so pleasurable. Owners are advised to catch the wonderment now, or risk losing its pleasure altogether. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 11/89.
