Score 89/100 · Drink 2023-2029, Neal Martin, Dec 2023

The 1976 Figeac is a delightful, fully mature Figeac. Dried flowers intermixed with mint and sage gradually cohere in the glass, gaining more and more harmony. The palate is medium-bodied, a pretty, slightly insubstantial Figeac, yet fine-boned with commendable sapidity. While it does not hold a candle to the legendary post-war vintage, given the difficulties of the growing season, this has matured well. Tasted at 67 Pall Mall at Chelsea Vintners' The Complete Bordeaux Vintage Guide dinner.

One of the top successes of the vintage, the 1976 Figeac was consistently impressive in tastings. A big, deep, cedary, ripe fruity bouquet shows good complexity. On the palate, this lush, rich, full-bodied wine avoids the soupy softness and diluted character of many wines produced in 1976. Round, concentrated, generous, and fully mature, this was a lovely wine from the 1976 vintage. Anticipated maturity: Now-probably in serious decline. Last tasted, 6/83.
