Melted tannins, juicy black fruits, finessed appellation signature, this opens to grilled blackberry and bilberries, brambed and pureed, with slate tannins and a wave of campfire smoke. Well balanced acidity also, this is charming, joyful and ready to drink but with plenty of life ahead. One to look out for.

65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot. Garnet hue. Ripe and welcoming on the nose; marked by the Cabernet and terroir with dark fruit and minty, stony notes to the fore. Sweet attack with a density of fruit on the mid palate which enrobes the tannins. A solar aspect but not excessive. Fine tannins give plenty of length and drive. Already drinkable (if decanted) but still has a way to go. (JL)
The 2009 Talbot has a refined, red berry nose with scents of leather, damp earth and light cocoa aromas. It just lacks a little power. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth tannin, and moderate acidity. Quite fleshy with conspicuous mocha-like notes, although it is missing some depth and certainly complexity on the finish. Talbot? Quality has not necessarily always lived up to this property’s Fourth Growth status, however there have been significant improvements in recent years, with a sustainable focus in the vineyard, and new winery and cellar.
