The only red wine bottled by Kapcsandy this vintage, the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon State Lane Vineyard Estate Cuvée is limited to 225 cases, a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot. According to Louis Kapcsandy, just three blocks were picked on September 24 and 25, and while they did some micro-ferments following the outbreak of the Glass Fire on September 27, they didn't pick the rest of the vineyard. The wine is gently herbal, with subtle cedar shadings, ripe cherries and dried spices. It's medium to full-bodied, silky and fine, and even if it lacks a bit of richness and depth, it's a pretty, accessible and very drinkable effort.

Incorporating 5% Merlot and brought in before the Glass fire, the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Cuvée is an outstanding effort that certainly appears to be smoke-free. Cassis, ripe plums, graphite, and tobacco define the aromatics, and it's medium to full-bodied, with ripe tannins and outstanding length. This is the only 2020 released and just 300 cases were produced.
The 2020 Estate Cuvée is the only red wine Kapcsándy made in 2020. It has good depth and plenty of persistence, with tannins that are rather coarse but also nicely integrated, for the year. On the less positive side, there is no getting past the muddled aromatics. The 2020 was aged in neutral oak only to avoid any sense of torrefaction or toast qualities. Red/purplish fruit, blood orange and lavender. It is a very good wine for the vintage, capped by the natural limitations of the year.
