Fine, streamlined and very classic. No great surprises is it an archetypal Glora: juicy and elegant. Will be drinking beautifully in 10-ish years.

Fresh acidities, mint, mandarin peel, fresh earth, delicious brambled autumnal fruit, as it opens a gourmet edge of black truffle and gouda cheese emerge, with bitter black chocolate notes and pencil lead. 40% new oak, 45hl/h yield. Harvest September 15 to 29, Remy di Constanzo technical director.
Two bottles of the 2011 Gloria were tasted but with different levels of oxidation. Dark berry fruit, a touch of cola on the nose that just lacks a bit of spark. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, a little dry and a bit of green, somewhat chewy on the finish. Gloria is much better nowadays. Tasted blind at the annual 10-Year-On tasting.
Tasted blind. Bright crimson. Ruby rim. Smells of rather luxurious ink. Relatively luscious for a St-Julien. Round and easy with a finish that’s so clean it’s almost like a mouthwash. But a second bottle was not as clean on the nose. (JR)
About the producer
The modest Ch. Gloria was only created in the 1940s, when Henri Martin – a cooper – purchased some vines. With parcels dotted in amongst the region’s Classed Growths, it produces impressive wines. Today it's managed by Vanessa and Jean Triaud (Henri Martin’s granddaughter and grandson-in-law).
