Light nose. Tastes almost watery after the Palmer! Dry finish. The imprint of 2005 is there and in isolation this would be very impressive. GV (JR)

The 2005 Giscours has far more concentration on the nose than the '04: blackberry, raspberry, cedar and crushed flowers, with hints of licorice emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with good grip, boasting plush red fruit, desiccated orange peel and brown spices. This is not a subtle Giscours, but it gives a lot of pleasure.

Classic balance, still showing intensity and concentration, fragrant spices and truffle that walk the line of tertiary yet with decades ahead of it. Blackberry, blackcurrant, liqourice, cocoa bean, creamy texture as it opens, excellent quality, with fresh acidity underpinning the palate. Good stuff. Harvest September 22 to October 6, 50% new oak for ageing. Didier Forêt technical director and Jacques Boissenot consultant.
