Score 91+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2012

Deep, bright ruby. Open-knit aromas of sexy oak, black raspberry, cinnamon and mint oil. Intensely flavored, savory and dry, with exotic spicy lift to the dark fruit and root beer flavors. This began with a very ripe character but gained freshness and a higher pitch in the glass as the tannins came into harmony. Still, there's an edgy quality to the finish that I did not notice in the 2009 or 2010. This will be the first release of a new wine from Bill Harlan, from a property just over a mile south of Harlan Estate, in the hills above Dominus.
