The 2019 Pommard Clos des Epeneaux 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet with mainly red berry fruit intermixed with clove and white pepper. There is something a little Rhône-like about the fruit profile. The palate is well-balanced and less tannic than recent vintage, with moderate grip. It is slightly savory in style, and I'm seeking a little more brightness on the finish. This is one where I prefer the 2018 by direct comparison.

The 2019 Pommard Clos des Epeneaux 1er Cru has a strange nose of floral, almost too floral, pastille-like red fruit that feels just a bit dour at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied and smooth, with raspberry coulis mixed with strawberry, a touch of dark chocolate and a patina of oak that needs to be subsumed on the finish. It can never shake off a sense of containment. I don't feel this is a representative showing. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
The 2019 Pommard Clos des Epeneaux 1er Cru was bottled in June and July ‘21. Very perfumed and floral scents on the nose, dark cherries, bergamot, damp earth and touches of clove, later hints of violet and blood orange (traits that I observed out of barrel). This is nicely detailed. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins, fine acidity, lightly spiced with a classy espresso-tinged finish that lingers in the mouth. Excellent.
