Score 91/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2014

Inky purple. Intense smoke- and spice-accented black and blue fruit aromas show very good clarity and a touch of candied violet. Plush, broad and sweet, with blueberry and cassis flavors complicated by a touch of licorice. Finishes velvety and long, with lingering spiciness and youthful tannic grip. Displays more flamboyant fruit than most "real" ports but doesn't lack for the structure one expects from a young version of the real McCoy. (JR)

Williams Selyem is an iconic Russian River Valley winery best known for its Pinot Noir. Producing restrained yet classically Californian expressions of the heartbreak grape (as well as a host of other wines), the property has gone from pioneer to one of the region’s standard-bearers.
