Score 86/100 · Drink 2019-2022, Neal Martin, Dec 2019

The 2007 Nénin has a light, balsamic-tinged bouquet that needs more vigor; it feels rather static. The palate is slightly better, with a rounded, almost Rhône-like savory entry, but then it does not follow up with much complexity, and consequently the finish feels rather monotone. Drink any bottles soon.

Tasted at BI Wine & Spirits' 10-Years-On tasting, the 2007 Nenin has never been the strongest vintage from the estate. The aromatics felt a little fatigued after ten years, with earthy, woodland aromas dominating what remains of the fruit (very little, to be honest). The palate is medium-bodied with stern tannin, but it sags in the middle and feels rather mean and austere towards the finish. This Pomerol estate is producing much better wines now. Tasted February 2017.

Looks remarkably young with crimson to the rim. Rather odd, harsh nose, a little metallic. An odd combination on the palate, the softness of chocolate but quite watery in the middle, then a bit obdurate on the finish. (JH)
