Score 94+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Sep 2004

Cool aromas of crushed stone, mint and menthol. Suave, classy and seamless, with sappy, dusty flavors of pineapple, grapefruit and powdered stone. Wonderfully sweet and smooth grand cru with outstanding subtle persistence. This seems a bit youthfully subdued today but there's impressive underlying power and soil character lurking. This, too, should be at its best between 2009 and 2014.

The spiced oak and mineral-scented 2002 Chevalier-Montrachet is a prodigiously concentrated wine. This focused, sappy wine is fleshy, studded with spiced minerals and reveals a lengthy, resin-flavored finish. Projected maturity: 2005-2012.
