Score 91/100 · Drink 2003-2011, Pierre Rovani, Feb 2001

The 1999 Chevalier-Montrachet reveals an outstanding nose. Complex nuances of spices, flowers, and white fruits can be discerned in its aromatics. Light to medium-bodied, finely detailed, focused, and pure, this is a precise, floral and mineral-dominated wine. It is extremely well-delineated, feminine, and flavorful. Projected maturity: 2003-2011. Very complex but restrained aromas of white plum, nut oil and spices; at once leesy and pure. Not quite as powerful on entry as the Demoiselles, but very intensely flavored and spicy, with its density leavened by strong minerality. Has the exhilarating sugar/acid balance of the vintage best examples. Very long, subtle, slow-mounting finish. This was 13.3% potential alcohol, chaptalized slightly to 13.6%.
