Score 92/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous

(16.1% alcohol with 19 grams of residual sugar; from a yield of 15 h/h) Pale yellow-gold color. Aromas of smoked meat and flint. Superripe, sweet and silky; very dense and powerful gewurztraminer with no rough edges. Tastes sweeter than 19 grams of residual sugar due to rather low acidity (atypical for these 2002 gewurztraminers). Finishes very smooth, spicy and long. A very ripe expression of Rangen gewurztraminer, from fruit harvested very late but without the influence of botrytis.
