Score 92/100 · Drink 2007-2020, Pierre Rovani, Dec 2002

Spreitzer's "303" parcel is famous in Germany because it was responsible for producing a wine with the highest must weight (303 Oeschle) ever recorded in the Rheingau in 1920. The 2001 Riesling Spatlese Oestricher Lenchen "303", harvested at 100 Oeschle, displays spiced pear and herbal tea aromas. Big, muscular, and rich, this masculine wine is broad and expressive yet has an underlying austerity which is fascinating. Highly concentrated and backward, its flavor profile exhibits stones, earth, pears, citrus fruits, nuts, and smoky flint. Projected maturity: 2007-2020. Importer: Terry Theise Estate Selections, imported by Michael Skurnik Wines, Inc., Syosset, NY; tel. (516) 677-9300
