The 2016 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Amoureuses was picked on 25 September and includes 30% whole bunch fruit, matured in 35% new oak. For an Amoureuses, it has an understated bouquet, clean and pure but maybe just missing the horsepower and the intensity of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite linear and tensile with just the right amount of salinity, though I would be seeking more precision toward the finish. While it is missing the panache of the 2015, it is a fine Amoureuses that should age with style.

More subtle than their Chambolle Chabiots on the nose, and there’s a piquant spiciness to the palate which seems unusual but not unpleasant. Fine tannic paste on the palate – very much ready to drink in that regard. Vivid acid too, and the finish has grandeur and dogged persistence. (RH)

About the producer
Although the Bichot family settled in the region in 1350, Albert Bichot was founded in 1831 by Bernard Bichot. Today the producer is one of Burgundy’s most respected, making wines from both its own vineyards and with purchased fruit.
