I expected more from the 2004 Brut Premier Cru Blanc de Blancs Millesime, a vintage in which so many Chardonnay-based Champagnes shine. Lassalle’s 2004 comes across as overly heavy, tropical, roasted and sweet, none of which hold much appeal nor interest, especially at this level. Disgorgement date: July 12, 2011. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2014. I was deeply impressed with the wines I tasted from Lassalle this year, all of which were standouts. Lassalle’s disgorgement dates are etched into the bottles just above the labels. The dates aren’t easy to see, but they are there. Importer: Kermit Lynch, Berkeley, CA; tel. (510) 524-1524

Light, bright gold. An intensely perfumed bouquet evokes fresh orange, green apple, anise and white flowers, with spice and less nuances adding complexity and lift. Zesty and impressively precise, with excellent clarity to its citrus and orchard fruit flavors. Picks up weight with air while maintaining its vivacity; the finish is dry, chalky and very long. This Champagne's balance is very impressive.
