The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Hauts-Doix 1er Cru seems to have a slightly more peppery bouquet than Ghislaine-Barthod's Charmes, perhaps the guiding hand of some whole bunch here [50%]. Elegant in style despite quite prominent oak, understated and focused, this might be easily overlooked. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins and fine length. This conveys the flashiness of Chambolle with confit -like red fruit and a healthy sprinkling of white pepper toward the finish. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

It has a powerful nose with iris and sous-bois aromas infusing the predominantly black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins, full of tension and quite precise, yet still a little "compact" on the finish. It will require three or four years to unfold once in bottle.
