The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Aux Malconsorts 1er Cru is not as defined on the nose as Mugneret-Gibourg's Vosne-Romanée Village, showing perhaps more marine influence with hints of oyster shell permeating the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied and a little chewy in style with a gentle grip that imparts a sense of rusticity. Some whole bunch is evident here, but I don't think it is quite as well assimilated as others this vintage. This is in a very awkward phase and it is difficult to see where it’s heading, though it does improve considerably in the glass. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Aromas of cherries, raspberries, exotic spices, anise and blood orange introduce the 2019 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts, a full-bodied, rich and muscular wine that's concentrated and primary, underpinned by lively acids and an imposing chassis of rich, powdery tannins. Even in the charming 2019 vintage, a decade's patience will be a minimum requirement for this Malconsorts.
