For Prüm, Goldkapsel means the grapes had botrytis. There's more texture and sweetness, but no lack of fruit and freshness. Doesn't seem obviously more mushroomy or earthy than the regular Auslese, but it's still delicious and balanced, of course. Long, intense, satisfying – but I prefer the non-Goldkapsel version for drinking now. (RH)

Quite a contrast to be tasting this 2003 after all these baby 2017s. Smells of wax, honey and hot bacon fat. The sweetness has widened and softened into gentleness, the acidity has become like a loose weave of silver threads through golden fruit. Light as a scarf with gently brisk acidity. (TC)
Reduced. Fruit is suppressed. Low key and blossomy. Not that much apparent sweetness. Lychee juice. One of those Prüm wines that is at an almost unreadable stage. It gave rise to much discussion. (JR)
Goldkapseln awarded on the basis of the botrytis level. Interesting! Very atypical for JJP in that the ripeness overbears the usual acidity character. Filigree, lively, very fresh. Very light bodied but with great delicacy. Wonderful texture. (JR)
