Somewhere between ruby and fox red with a very pale rim. Not much clarity on the eye, or nose – a bit smudgy and autumnal. Just a hint of dustiness. Then sweet and fully evolved and round and smudgy on the palate. Real density and terroir here – no simple sweet fruit. Lots of acidity too. I suspect this will always be a little tough. (JR)

Very dark ruby. Layered, undergrowth nose. Very round and satisfying. Great balance – one of the most complete and charming 1988s to have come my way recently. Rich and round. (JR)
